When I dropped the car, I explained that the overhead panel with buttons for Information, service, airbag, lights, etc wasn't working, and periodically does things by itself, such as constantly calling the information service while I'm driving. I have looked in to this myself, and it seems to be a really common occurrence in the MK8 Golf model. However, when I got a call to collect the car, the voicemail message said there was no errors in the computer to say it wasn't working, and after pulling the fuse and putting it back, it was working correctly. It was suggested I take a video if it happened again - which is an odd request to video something malfunctioning while I'm driving. When I picked up the car, I sat in it, started the car and pressed the buttons on the overhead unit - and it was not working. My issue is not with the service people - they were very nice and helpful. My issue is with Volkswagen having a stringent policy for replacing parts that they know are faulty. There's absolutely no benefit for me to get a new module, if it is working correctly - so surely on a part that is known for chronic failure, if your customer says its constantly not working, that should just get replaced without the service advisors/technicians having to jump through hoops. The module is responsible for the passenger airbags. Calling the information service constantly while driving is distracting and frustrating. Turning on and off airbags is dangerous. This module being faulty is absolutely a clear safety issue. It should be replaced, given its a known and common failure point, if there is any hint of malfunction.
