All new Taos models have a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that can generate up to 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. For the S and SE trims, you can select between front-wheel and all-wheel drive, while the SEL comes with all-wheel drive standard. Front-wheel drive models have an eight-speed automatic transmission and a torsion-beam suspension, while all-wheel drive has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and a multilink rear suspension. The all-wheel-drive models also include four customizable drive modes.
The S trim gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while the SE and SEL models have one that measures 8 inches. Every VW Taos get a Digital Cockpit instrument display, but the SEL comes with a larger 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro. The Digital Cockpit Pro allows Palo Alto, CA drivers to customize the style and information displayed on the screen. Smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is standard, as are two front USB-C ports. A subscription Wi-Fi hotspot and various VW-connected services are also available.
Every VW Taos is loaded with standard safety features, including adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitor, front collision warning with pedestrian monitoring, travel assist, lane assist and emergency assist. Additional available technologies include dynamic road display signs and front parking control.
