Volkswagen Tiguan vs. Honda CR-V

If you are looking for a new SUV, there is a good chance that you're prepared for a long search process, ready to go from dealership to dealership and website to website looking for the perfect vehicle for the right price. But we at Sunnyvale Volkswagen want to help make your car-buying experience as easy and stress-free as possible. So, to help save you time in your search, we've gone ahead and compared our SUV, the Volkswagen Tiguan, to one of its competitors, the Honda CR-V.

Volkswagen Tiguan Cost vs Honda CR-V Cost

Starting with one of the most important deciding factors, the Volkswagen Tiguan has a lower starting price compared to the Honda CR-V. The Volkswagen Tiguan also comes with a better basic limited warranty-six years or 72,000 miles to three years or 36,000 miles-and drivetrain warranty than the Honda CR-V. The Honda SUV does offer an unlimited amount of mileage for their corrosion warranty but that only extends to five years while the Volkswagen model offers a similar package for up to seven years.

Volkswagen Tiguan Performance vs Honda CR-V Performance

Under the hood, the Volkswagen Tiguan packs a 2.0-liter I4 turbo engine while the Honda CR-V packs a 2.4-liter I4. The Volkswagen SUV delivers the same amount of horsepower, 184, as the CR-V but blows both Honda engine options out of the water when it comes to torque, 221 pounds per feet to either 180 or 179 pounds per feet. Both vehicles offer an option for all-wheel drive, but while the Honda CR-V comes with a CVT transmission, the Volkswagen Tiguan comes with an eight-speed shifting automatic.

Volkswagen Tiguan Safety vs Honda CR-V Safety

Safety-wise, both vehicles go neck and neck offering features like traction control and engine immobilizer, as well as a plethora of airbags, and child safety features. Each model also offers additional active safety features like Forward Collison Warning and Blind Spot Monitoring systems as long as you upgrade to the second trim level in each lineup. The base model of the Tiguan does offer a Driver Assistance Package so you can elect to have the active safety features on any model you want! Honda doesn't offer any similar package without charging you more for the same features.

Volkswagen Tiguan Interior vs Honda CR-V Interior

Inside, the Volkswagen Tiguan holds up to seven people in three rows while the Honda CR-V only holds five. As far as convenience features go, they both offer features like Bluetooth® and Cruise Control. Where the Tiguan distinguishes itself from the Honda is infotainment features that are standard on the Tiguan and not the CR-V. The Volkswagen SUV comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen whereas the Honda CR-V needs an upgrade to a higher trim configuration. The Tiguan also includes integration of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ on every trim level while the Honda CR-V doesn't offer them on its base model.
